How to Stay Motivated While Working from Home

Working remotely during the pandemic has become the new normal. It can be very difficult to focus on all the changes in your environment, whether you work from home alone or are surrounded by screaming children. There’s no boss looking over your shoulder, keeping you in check. Distractions such as the refrigerator, television, and social media may keep you away from focussing on work. You may also be working longer hours without even realizing it. Try employing these work from home strategies to stay motivated during the workday.

    Declutter

Decluttering your home office will not only benefit your productivity levels but also works wonders for your mental and physical health. A study conducted by researchers has identified a direct link between cortisol, the stress hormone, and clutter.

    Your Outfit

Clothes always have a strong psychological impact on motivation when working from home. According to a number of studies, dressing casually can make you feel less focused and alert. When you put on an item of clothing, it is normal for the wearer to adopt the characteristics they associate with that garment.

    Regular Breaks

When working from home, it can be very easy to work too long without taking a break. Not only does working non-stop make you feel quite drained, but it can also take a physical toll. Working without taking enough breaks can cause muscle and joint problems, even causing repetitive strain injuries in your back and neck.

    Go Outside

When taking one of your regular breaks, try stepping out. Going outdoors when you work from home can do wonders for your motivation levels. Even a quick walk around the block can work to help clear your mind. Regular exposure to light and fresh air is one of the most positive things you can do for your well-being. If the weather works in your favor, try working outside, on your porch or balcony.

    Reward Yourself

If you’re finding it hard to complete a project, use a reward system to help motivate you and hold you accountable. You can always reward yourself with a cup of your favorite tea as soon as you finish a presentation. You can also stay motivated by giving yourself something to look forward to at the end of the day, such as your favorite podcast, video, or taking a long, hot bath.
