Creating a home that you adore can be a delightful experience. Here are a few insider tips and tricks to help you make your dream home, and have fun in the process.
Pick a Color Scheme
Choose three to five colors that you want to show up most prominently in your home. If you’re not sure how to do this, use your clothes as a guide. People tend to shop for clothes in shades that suit their personalities. Alternatively, you can pick a tone based on the feeling you want your home interior design to express.
A monochromatic scheme favors just one color, including any lighter tones and darker shades.
An analogous scheme uses colors next to each other on the color wheel.
A complementary scheme uses colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, such as blue and red
Quality over Quantity
Decorating your home doesn’t always have to cost a fortune. Unplanned inexpensive impulse buys, however, often lead to clutter and wear away quickly. Instead, save up for something a little more expensive that will last decades as opposed to something that will show wear within a year or two. You can set up a budget that you can then spend on grounding pieces such as a sofa, dining table, or chairs.
Home Design Layouts
Try a few different layouts, as sometimes all a home needs is a bit of furniture shuffle. Consider trying the Feng Shui approach, particularly in spaces like the study, bedrooms, and bathrooms. You can start by planning your interior layout and then adjust it until you’re happy.
Picture Height
Show off your favorite artwork by making sure you hang them at the right height. Your primary piece of art, or the horizontal centerline of your gallery wall, should be at eye-level, which is around 57” off the floor. Measure this from the fitting or cord on the back of your art instead of the top of the frame.
The Correct Light Bulbs
The right light bulb can make your interiors pop or even create a relaxing atmosphere, while the wrong bulb can turn your home interior design into a stark and unwelcoming space. Light-Emitting Diode (LED) light bulbs are favored by interior designers because they are cost- and power-efficient, and most importantly they have an unrivaled color quality.
